On September 10, 2017 Moscow Metro start introducing ALIPAY fare payment system. The pilot project of Alipay includes 5 stations of Moscow Central Circle.
The launch of the payment system Alipay is supposed to make MCC more attractive for tourists from China, since the new tool will allow you to buy tickets same way they are doing in home country. The ticket offices have now special information stickers in Chinese informing that offices are equipped with special PIN-Pad devices that can create and print receipts with QR codes for payment. Passengers have a choice of two types of tickets: "united" for a single trip or unlimited for 1 day. Further, the passengers are doing the same actions as adopted in China; a tourist scans the receipt using the mobile app AliPay, pays and gets a ticket.
"Moscow Central Circle had implemented already all the most innovative payment methods that exist in Europe. The Moscow metro makes every effort to ensure that every passenger, including foreign tourists, could pay the fare in the most convenient way. Beginning of cooperation with Alipay will make MCC more accessible for tourists from China," - commented Roman Latypov, first Deputy Head of the Moscow Metro.
"Alipay is extremely popular in China. More than 520 million people used it in 2016; the turnover exceeded 1.7 trillion dollars. It is not only a payment application, but first a powerful marketing platform, ecosystem of various financial services and even a tour guide. The system processes large amounts of data and enables merchants and businesses to be more accurate in planning marketing campaigns. It enables customers to enjoy special offers, to get the best exchange rate for the rouble-yuan, which is important for Chinese tourists, as well as the modern credit products within the Alipay wallet", – says Bogdan Zadorozhniy, Director of business development of Alipay in Russia and the CIS.
"In 2016, Russia was visited by 1.5 million tourists from China. According to forecasts, in 2018 the number of tourists will increase. Moreover, the growing number of individual tourists plan their holidays in Moscow. We appreciate the commitment of our partners to make the stay of our citizens comfortable in Russia", – said Ms. Van Saosa , head of the representation of Tourism Affairs State Administration of the PRC in Moscow,.
Alipay cooperates with over 100 financial institutions in China, Russia and the world. It is planned that by the end of the year the purchase of travel tickets through Alipay will cover all stations of the Moscow Central Circle.
