Deeply touched by the tragedy that occurred on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line on July 15 2014, Ivan Besedin, Head of the Moscow Metropolitan decided to resign.
On 22 July, the corresponding decree was signed by the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin who stressed that it is due to the tragic accident.
"I decided to resign. Personally aware of my responsibility for what happened (...) I believe that I should leave the post as Head of the Moscow Metro," said Ivan Besedin in a communiqué published on the Moscow Metro website.
Mr Dmitry PEGOV succeeds Mr. Besedin.
Pegov commented on the accident: "The main problem, why it happened, is the safety of the trains’ movement". He stressed that he needs more time for a detailed definition of the tasks in his new post.
According to Pegov, he already had a meeting with the staff of the Moscow Metro on Tuesday.
